Below are my notes from the breakout session I just attended and they are unedited due to the time constraint of actually finding a place where the post will publish due to my problems acquiring an internet connection (I hope to react to and expand upon these notes in time)…

Why do movies [...]
Over the next few posts, I’ll be posting an accumulation of posts from the course of the day. Apparently, the Wi-Fi connection at First EV Free is saturated and I’ve been unable to get or maintain a connection all day today… but I have been writing… so, here you go.
This morning, we recited the Nicene [...]
I really should go to sleep, but I feel compelled to share a great story that Matt had told us at lunch about something that happened to him a short time ago. I’m bound to get some details wrong… so Matt, if you read this feel free to correct it.
He’d received a phone call while [...]
Just back from an incredibly pleasant lunch with one brother from Orlando, FL (Matt) and a couple from Pasadena, CA (Dottie and Fred) where we reacted to an incredible message given during the first plenary session by Andy Crouch. It was such an enjoyable time where we each spoke and clarified what God was showing [...]
My wife and I are sitting here waiting for the Symposium to start and we’ve already met our neighbor (and fellow church planter). It’s an interesting experience going to a symposium/conference in your own home town. You’re off work, and have the whole day booked with sessions and workshops, but you know you’re going back [...]
I’m exhausted. Mainly because I’ve been sick for three weeks and am just now recovering and this has been a full day… but exhausted nonetheless. That said, I feel this great sense of burgeoning revelation as I contemplate and meditate on all that I’ve encountered today on this first day of the symposium. Andy Crouch [...]
I’ve decided to get back into movies. I’ve always loved film and having children and the busyness of life (not to mention my prolonged period of pharasaism) had my movie watching become greatly diminished. I am moved by great stories and I see God’s truth portrayed in those things are done with excellence (unlike the [...]
On Sunday night, I and my family went to see Derek Webb at Common Grounds in Waco. It was an incredible show. My wife and two daughters attended with me. My eldest, Zoë, sat with me through the entire concert and what a special time it was for us both.
Derek’s music has been incredibly meaningful [...]
I went to a seminar on Saturday about how we, as Christians, can engage our culture by actually watching those evil movies being shown at the local multiplex. It’s horrifying! We’re actually being told that we can watch these sinful people play out their sin in rich multi-color. How can we be expected to maintain [...]
Hopefully, you see in these writings a man who is staying The Course and pursuing The Path amidst the pitfalls and selfish ways of being a son of Adam. I pray earnestly that my writing would encourage some of you by showing you that this journey - though arduous and sometimes tragic - is a journey of great satisfaction. A satisfaction greater than our greatest imaginings. The trials and refining fire of tribulation are to be recognized as a small shadow of the suffering of our Savior so that we can rejoice, as Peter and the disciples did, to be counted worthy to suffer for the sake of the Name.
