The Ephesians Project

In: Family, Me, Worship

As I’ve gone from devotional to devotional and read guide after guide regarding individual worship as well as trying to find good resources for family worship – I have never been able to find what I was looking for. So, I’ve now decided to make it myself. My goal is simple – I’m going to [...]

Twitter in Community

In: Culture, Friends, Soma, Worship

I’ve been using Twitter for a year or so now. When I first joined up, it was in the middle of the throes of people who “got it” by using it primarily as a push mechanism and those who were n00bs because they were still using it to tell people where they were instead of [...]

The Gravity of the Status Quo

In: Me, Worship

On Friday night, in the midst of the passion of WorshipGod09, I hit a spiritual high. A place where the Gospel was never more clear and Christ’s unparalleled love was more real to me than ever… which, of course, led to an emotional high (naturally). But when I awoke on Saturday morning (the last session [...]

Fleeing arrogance to find… more arrogance

In: Me, Worship

So, Veritas Fellowship has been partnering with Soli Deo Gloria for about 9 months now. We actually attend Sunday morning services at Soli Deo Gloria on 4th and Pedernales. I lead the music and occasionally preach (I actually preach this coming Sunday on Luke 19:11-27 , The Parable of the Ten Minas). I’ve enjoyed the [...]

Me… unBoxed, part one

In: Me, Worship

Until now, my (intended) audience has been centered on people who have shared much of my experiences with life and faith. If you’ve read my blog, you’ll note that I have felt challenged to expand my horizons and destroy my preconceptions. Through this process, I have ventured out into territories completely foreign to me and [...]

Polemic on Christian Politics

In: Culture, Issues, Worship

I hesitate to write this article for a variety of reasons: The likelihood of offending brothers and sisters in Christ is great (though I do not wish to do so) My views are contrary to the norm and may be used as fodder by enemies of the Cross to prove points I do not support [...]

Another infection that rears its ugly head in American Christendom is our tendency to define our faith by what we don’t do rather than what we do. “I don’t drink, I don’t chew, I don’t go out with girls who do.” I know, I know – this is an old saw and we’ve improved over [...]

Living for someone other than yourself

In: Me, Worship

Looking out for number one is almost ingrained in the American psyche. While there seems to be some leanings away from this ingrained mentality, the typical behavior points to self-infatuation still taking center-stage. I know – it’s no surprise – you encounter selfish people every day when driving, standing in line, whatever. Yeah… that’s nice, [...]

Loving where God has placed you

In: Culture, Worship

Austin has been hot lately – the 100s have been the norm for a good while now. Supposedly we’re about to have a turn for some relatively cooler weather. It’s amazing how easy it is to get excited about 92 when it’s been 102 or higher for what seems like weeks. In most parts north [...]

The worst sinner I know

In: Culture, Me, Worship

I’m the worst sinner I know. It’s true – I don’t know of anybody who is a greater sinner than I. Paul called himself “the chief of sinners” – I feel the same way. I know of nobody whose heart is as dark as my own. I know of nobody whose thoughts are as bereft [...]

Hopefully, you see in these writings a man who is staying The Course and pursuing The Path amidst the pitfalls and selfish ways of being a son of Adam. I pray earnestly that my writing would encourage some of you by showing you that this journey - though arduous and sometimes tragic - is a journey of great satisfaction. A satisfaction greater than our greatest imaginings. The trials and refining fire of tribulation are to be recognized as a small shadow of the suffering of our Savior so that we can rejoice, as Peter and the disciples did, to be counted worthy to suffer for the sake of the Name.
